Friends of Foster Kids is a non-profit organization founded in Macomb County, Michigan in 2008.  From Macomb County alone there are approximately 900 children in foster care each year. Many of these children have never experienced the joy of receiving a gift at Christmas. We provide a “Christmas” for foster children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect and placed in temporary housing or shelters. In a season for family, granting a child’s wish speaks softly of unconditional love from people who care.

Friends of Foster Kids has expanded its service to lend a hand to those who have aged out of foster care at age 20 but are still in need of assistance. Many find themselves with no family and no place to live. We help them by meeting some of their basic needs to live independently.

First Step is the only non-profit agency in Wayne County providing comprehensive services for victims of domestic and sexual violence.

First Step provides free and confidential programs designed to help survivors of violence overcome the lack of intervention and support, the feelings of powerlessness, isolation, physical danger and fear, and the financial, emotional and cultural barriers that victims of violence often face when seeking help.

Variety – The Children’s Charity

Variety Feeds Kids provides more than 1,800 qualifying children who are at-risk of weekend hunger in four schools in one Oakland County school district with balanced, nutritious food. Elementary students whose daily breakfasts and lunches are typically provided through school programs routinely experience hunger on weekends. Variety Feeds Kids furnishes a weekend bag containing food that is nutritious, non-perishable, easy to prepare and child-friendly to hungry children.

Working cooperatively with school officials and staff as well as the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the bags of food are distributed to children each Friday afternoon or before a long holiday weekend. With the support of partnering organizations and corporations, Variety Feeds Kids not only nourishes the bodies of elementary students but also encourages positive relationships and fosters educational opportunities for children.

Our donations will support an expansion of the program to kids/schools in Pontiac.

Abigayle Ministries

Building Bridges

The mission of Building Bridges is to inspire children to believe in themselves by connecting them with caring adults.

Building Bridges is founded on the belief that thousands of children in Metropolitan Detroit are lacking much needed positive interaction with caring adults. Whether caused by death or divorce of parents, economic difficulty, learning disability or other circumstances beyond their control, so many children need but one adult to believe in them for these children to believe in themselves.

Building Bridges also recognizes that thousands of caring adults in our community are looking for a way (or an additional way) to give back to their community by sharing their time, their talents, their knowledge, their experience, their hard work, and their positive spirit with these children.

What impact will Building Bridges have? Perhaps we will keep a child off the streets. Perhaps we will help a child avoid a life of crime. Perhaps we will encourage a child to say no to drugs. Perhaps we will motivate a child to go to college. Certainly, we will help every child believe in themselves.

Life Directions inspires achieving peers to want to motivate, mentor and lead their peers to take charge of their Life Direction! Life Directions has been working for over 40 years to promote the powerful dynamic of Peers Inspiring Peers Through Forgiveness. The “Peer Motivation Programs,” “Peer Mentor Programs,” and “Neighborhood Enrichment Programs” break the cycle of violence in the community through peer outreach and organizing intergenerational events with youth.

We’re looking forward to our next meeting in February of 2018. After each meeting, a member of 100 Businesses Who Care will present the donations to the winning organization that was voted on by the group.
